Wow, I've gotten massively inactive here on dA :C  I'm not even quite sure why, I just can't find as much to do here anymore.

REGARDLESS, I hope you've all been well!

Not sure if anyone'd be interested, but I've also got a Tumblr and a Blogger now~  I don't have any plans to stop posting stuff to dA, but I'm certainly more active on Tumblr....

Hmm.  I wish I had something a bit more exciting to tell you guys :C  I started watching Doctor Who, am learning oil paints, have an unhealthy obsession with all things Sherlock, and am hopefully going to cosplay Loki?

Man, nothing like trying to blog about your life to make you realize you don't really do anything 8D;;;; ahahahaha.

I like Cap'n America~  Probably a mix of Intro to Comics and the new movie, plus certain orange soda cans that had Bucky on them for the longest time.

Hmmm, probably Crona from Soul Eater?  Though sadly I do not have purple hair...

7. Most awkward moment of your life?
Can't think of anything too exciting.  During the first day of my college life, I decided I'd be a cool kid and run up the stairs with all of my new college-goers.  Needless to say I beefed it, and managed to hit my knee in a way that my entire leg went numb and wouldn't support me.  So I got to sit in the stairwell corner-of-shame and attempt to punch my leg into consciousness while everyone stood around and watched.  Yeeeeeahhhh.  Good choices.

Sorry for kinda dropping off the face of the earth there for a week.  *attempts to dig self out of built-up inbox*  Though, I promise I was in fact doing artsy things!  I was taking part in GISHWHES (Speaking of which, any watchers out there that are also GISHWHESEAN's~?)

I've got quite a bit of work to start posting, so look forwards to a surplus of really strange things!

I don't even know what to do with my life right now.  EVERYTHING REMINDS ME IF GISHWHES.  (I have a problem)

Though I know what I SHOULD be doing, and that's working on my animation final 8D;;;;;  I've put that off for an entire week now, whoo!

At least I got to make a 4' x 4' portrait of Jared Padalecki out of Swedish Fish, get a decorated Christmas tree to fly, meet 5 more people named Amanda, made a 2' tall seagull out of tampon and pads, etc etc :C

Anything exciting happen while I was gone~?  I missed all you guys terribly!

So hey- I've seen a bunch of people throwing up Secret Santa wishlists around here!  Now, I've always seen them happening, and it always looked like quite a bit of fun, but I never really took the time to look into it ;u;

I found a handful in a half-assed search just now, but it looks like all of the deadlines are already passed.....  Somewhat quick question, just wondering if anyone had any groups they'd recommend, or if I'm just simply too late to this internet party...

Hmmm.  This might just be the shortest journal I've ever posted, but I don't have anything terribly exciting to update with right now xD;;;;  Sorry guys.

Oh!  I do have one small thing that could be interesting.  For those of you who have a blogger, I finally made one of 'em~  There's like.... 5 things I think, that I've posted there now- I think all of them are also in my gallery.  Chances are I'm going to post most of everything to both of these sites- the blog is more geared towards finished illustrations, schoolwork, and personal work I'm especially happy with.  The only real extra thing on the blog is that I'll post WIP's or detail shots for some pieces~

Drabble post, nothing terribly important~

Lately, I've been thinking about why it is that I draw.  It's one of the questions you get asked over and over in art college (and probably many other places) :  Why do you do what you do?  What are you doing that's different than what anyone else is doing?  Needless to say, it's a hard question.

My dad once said, art is the attempt at expressing something basically human.  I think this is a big part of what art is for me.  I get nervous around people I don't know, I'm not very good at voicing my opinion, and above all, I'm dead terrified of others laughing/mocking something I hold precious.  It's terrifying for me to be honest, to actually get behind something and say yeah, this is important to me.  So much easier to hide behind sarcasm and jokes, instead of actually sticking your neck out to say how you really feel.

Art, for me, is my solution.  Very slowly, day by day, I'm able to learn how to put bits of my world into a visual form.  So much more than words, my appearance, or the like, I'm able to show people what's important to me.  I'm able to weave something I care a lot about into little patches of graphite on a page, or pixels on a screen.  It's a way that I can make others understand what I fail to express through any other way.  If I get good enough, I can create something that people care about, in turn.  Every once in a while, I'll stumble across some digital gallery of someone I've never met on the internet, and will spend the next hour or two simply being captivated by their work.  It feels like I can see a whole different chunk of a world, and experience things I've never seen, heard, felt.  If I can affect even one person in that same way with my art, I'll consider myself successful as an artist.

I think everyone wants to be able to understand others, and to a greater extent, everyone wants to be understood.  Perhaps art is, in effect, my attempt at doing so.  I know it's impossible for one human being to completely understand another human being- but so help me, I'll keep trying until I die.

Tying back in to one of my earlier thoughts, it's extremely intimidating for me to post this 8D;;;;;  No sarcasm, no jokes, no witty remarks or capslock.  But hey, like I said, I've been thinking about this a lot, and I figured this'd be a fitting place to post some thought!drabble.  Gotta start somewhere.

So, I'll wrap this up with a question.  Why do YOU draw?  What is art to you?
